Petition will be presented to minister of Immigration and Citizenship, requesting fair treatment of the visa applicants by Canadian Embassy in Tehran.
We, the undersigned, petition the Right honourable Diane Finley Minister of Citizenship and Immigration,
requesting fair treatment of Iranian citizens seeking visitor visa, study permit and temporary resident visa.
We wish to bring to your esteemed attention that Canadian consulate and immigration authorities at the Canadian embassy in Tehran are systematically refusing to grant visa to our parents and siblings. This trend of arbitrary visa refusals to Iranian citizens and prospective students, namely on the subjective ground of “limited ties to Iran”, has significantly increased since 2004.
We firmly believe that, in the absence of any reasonable justification, these restrictive policies and subjective limitations are only amounting to an unfair treatment of applicants based on their nationality, and in patent disregard of our rights (such as the right to family reunification), as Iranian-Canadians.
As Canadians we take pride in the international recognition of Canada’s achievements in supporting human rights. However, we remain profoundly concerned at the current unjustified treatment of Iranian citizens by authorities at Canadian embassy in Tehran in frequently denying them visa or making the usual procedures of obtaining one extremely difficult.
We respectfully request that you investigate this matter and take appropriate corrective measures in this regard.
