Here is a statement from the ICC regarding the Aseman Airlines Plan Crash:
The ICC is extremely saddened to hear about the tragedy on Aseman Airlines Flight EP3704. This flight crashed on Sunday shortly after taking off from Tehran heading for Yasouj. 66 people were aboard the aircraft. Many analysts have observed that these crashes occur in Iran with higher frequency due to the fact that Iranian airlines have been prevented from getting access to needed replacement parts and new aircraft due to the sanctions on Iran. This forces Iranian airlines to fly older aircraft that are more likely to fail during flights.
Unfortunately, even in Canada we have politicians and lobbying groups who are attempting to prevent aircraft sales to Iran and are advocating for additional sanctions on Iran that only hurt the Iranian people. On the same week as the crash, Senator Linda Frum condemned potential Canadian aircraft sales by Bombardier to Iranian airlines on the Senate floor. We call on the Canadian government and all parliamentarians to refrain from imposing any restrictions on potential sales of Canadian aircraft or Canadian parts to Iranian commercial airlines.
