Back in my home country of Iran, I worked as a registered lawyer for more than 15 years.  Since my arrival to Canada, I have been providing fellow Iranian immigrants with legal advice.  Along with my role as a consultant, I also own an educational company that prepares internationally trained dentists for their board exams.

I have been married for almost 35 years, and I have two children with my wife.  My happy marriage, and our two wonderful children are a great sense of pride for me. 

I consider Canada to be my second homeland, and since arriving here, I have established many ties in this country.  I am also proud of the Iranian community within Canada, and am quite pleased to be part of it.

I have been a member of the Iranian Canadian Congress for more than five years.  As a part of my active membership, I have been volunteering in different ICC Committees, such as the policy committee.  I am also a board member of the Professional Iranian Canadian Real Estate Association, United Real Estate Agents of Canada, and Care to Change.  

With my dear friend, Mostafa Azizi, I co-founded the House of Iranian Culture and Heritage in Toronto in which we organized and presented several art exhibitions.  I also planned the “Say No to Canadian Citizenship Questionnaire” campaign, which successfully lobbied for the support of Provincial and Federal members of parliament, along with other Canadian authorities.

In my opinion the Iranian community has a lot to offer.  This community has so much potential, and the ICC can help it to achieve a higher standard.  It is my belief that this can be done by prioritizing the community’s needs, and creating a united voice.  Moreover, finding both creative and practical solutions, and then advocating for the government officials to implement the right solutions that can address problems our community encounters.

اینجانب مجتبی ادیب راد وکیل پایه یک دادگستری ایران بوده و به جامعه ایرانیان مشاوره حقوقی ارایه میدهم .همچنین دارای یک  موسسه آموزشی بوده که به دندانپزشکان مهاجراز سراسر دنیا، برای اخذ مجوزکار حرفه ای در کانادا دوره های آموزشی لازم را ارایه می دهد

با گذشت 35 سال از زندگی مشترک و با داشتن دو فرزند برومند خود را مردی خانواده محور و خوشبخت می دانم. به مردم و بخصوص هموطنانم عشق می ورزم همچنین کشورکانادا را وطن دوم خود دانسته و نسبت به آن احساس دین دارم

در زمینه فرهنگ وهنر از بانیان فرهنگخانه ایرانی بوده که باهمراهی دوست عزیزم مصطفی عزیزی توانستیم بیش از دهها گالری و دوره های آموزشی برگزار کنیم

از طراحان و بانیان کمپین اعتراض به تاخیر درروند پرونده های شهروندی بوده ودر همین راستا با توجه به همکاری فعال کامیونیتی وپیگیریها و رایزنی با تنی چند از مقامات فدرال و استانی و جمعی از نماینده های پارلمان توانستیم به موفقیت های خوبی دست یابیم

از نظر من جامعه ایرانی در کانادا مجموعه قوی وتوانا میباشد که جایگاه شایسته تری را باید بتواند بدست آورد.  درراستا دستیابی به جایگاه در خور این جامعه، کنگره میتواند نقش تعیین کننده ای را ایفانماید. این نقش از طریق نظر سنجی و الویت بندی نیازها و ایجاد صدای واحد در کامیونیتی آغاز می شود. و در گام بعدی  با اتخاذ راهکارهای مناسب و قانونی و رایزنی های لازم با مراجع رسمی برای حل چالشها اقدام می شود

بدیهی است کاربردی نمودن کمیته ها و استفاده هرچه بیشتر از ظرفیتهای کامیونیتی میتواند درافزایش نتایج و  کارایی مفید واقع شود. از سوی دیگر افزایش توان مالی کنگره از دیگر فاکتورهای ضروری است که باید در دستور کار قرار گیرد

Ali Bangi

Ali Karimzadeh Bangi is Founder and Co-Director of ASL19, a Canadian-based group working towards practical responses to online access to information challenges. Since 2012, Ali has led ASL19's organizational strategy and partnership development, working closely with leading technology, civil society, media and government actors to improve Iranians’ ability to access their human rights online.

Prior to ASL19, Ali organized the Cycling for Human Rights in Iran Campaign, biking to Ottawa to deliver a petition to the Iranian embassy protesting against the violent crackdown on Iranians in 2009. Ali’s background also includes community development, project management and other human rights projects with the UN in Syria, Right to Play and other grassroots initiatives in Azerbaijan, and Laos.

Nomination Statement

It is with my great pleasure to nominate myself for consideration for the 2016 Board of Directors in the upcoming elections. First of all I want to take a moment to recognize your tireless efforts in addressing and raising awareness about different issues in our community.

After immigrating to Canada in 2008 I continued my education in (MASC.) Electrical Engineering and MBA at Ryerson University until 2013. During this time and before that at the University of Tehran I have been involved with many activities, whether, taking initiatives to sponsor events, festivals or founding students organizations to address cultural, artistic, union and ethnic needs, desires and identities of my fellow students / Iranians. For instance, I was involved in founding a human rights organization at Ryerson, HRIR (Human Rights for Iran @ Ryerson) from the building block of writing its constitution to organizing many different events dedicated to different minorities, within Iranian Community inside Iran and in Diaspora.

To integrate better with the larger community, I was the Graduate Chairperson of Ryerson Student Union during 2009-2010 and in charge of ~3000 graduate students, while sitting on Ryerson Student Union board with other 30 representatives for all students of Ryerson University.

I also created (with few other individuals) one of the only truly horizontal organizations within Iranian Community in Diaspora in 2010 as a movie club, called Na-Ma-Na-Cinema which is still actively screening weekly movies and presenting artistic critiques.

Currently I am working as a Business Research Advisor for a tech company and ready to transfer my community experiences and leadership to ICC with the aim of creating a functional, inclusive and efficient congress for the next two years. I will proudly participate in any tentative events organized by ICC before elections, to discuss my vision and future plans for ICC.

من پس از مهاجرت به کانادا در سال ۲۰۰۸  تحصیلات خود را ابتدا در رشته کارشناسی ارشد مهندسی برق و بعد مدیریت
MBA  هر دو در دانشگاه رایرسون تا سال ۲۰۱۳  ادامه دادم . در این مدت و پیش از آن در دانشکده فنی دانشگاه تهران
فعالیت های مختلفی را بنیان نهادم؛ از برگزاری برنامه ها، فستیوال و کنفرانسها گرفته تا برساختن تشکیلات دانشجویی
صنفی، فرهنگی، هنری و قومی متفاوت برای برآورده کردن نیازها و خواسته های هویتی دانشجویان و ایرانیان.
به عنوان مثال، من با گروهی از دوستانم یک سازمان کاملا ا نوپای حقوق بشری در دانشگاه رایرسون به نام "حریر" به راه
انداختیم و من از سنگ بنای نوشتن اساسنامه تا برگزاری سری برنامه هایی موفق با محوریت اقلیتهای مختلف ایرانی در
ایران و کانادا نقش داشتم

دیری نگذشت که برای محک زدن خودم در حضور مفیدتر، پررنگ تر و در عین حال همگن تر در جامعه بزرگتر این
 به عنوان رئیس کل دانشجویان - بار در فضای دانشجویی دانشگاههای کانادا فعال شدم. در سال تحصیلی ۲۰۰۹تا ۲۰۱۰
مقاطع بالاتر در دانشگاه رایرسون انتخاب شدم و بیش از ۳۰۰۰ دانشجو کارشناسی ارشد و دکترا را در تشکل دانشجویی
این دانشگاه نمایندگی می کردم. برای این منظور هر هفته در جلسات هیئت مدیره تشکل دانشجویی ۳۰ نفره شرکت کرده و
به خوبی با دینامیک های قدرت جریانهای متفاوت، رفتار مسئولانه و مدیریت و رهبری در مقیاسی کوچک ولی بسیار
حرفه ای در کشور کانادا آشنا شدم

به علاوه یکی از افتخارات من در کانادا تشکیل یک گروه حرفه ای نقد فیلم و سینما به نام "نه ما نه سینما" در سال ۲۰۱۰
بود که به همراه چند نفر دیگر از پایه گذارانش بودم و امروز هم این جلسات پس از گذشت ۶  سال هر هفته در دانشگاه
تورنتو به صورت آزاد برای عموم تشکیل می شود و نقدهای حرفه ای داوطلبان را به مخاطبان ارائه می کند. اهمیت
جلسات فیلم اما مهم تر از محتوای هنری آن به زعم من، در افقی بودن این سازمان است به طوری که تا جایی که می دانم،
تنها سازمان ایرانی در نوع خود در خارج از کاناداست که در عین جدیت، نظم و تداوم آن، بدون هیچ رئیس و
گروه مدیریتی و در همه امور با نظر اکثریتِ خود داوطلبان اداره می شود و همین موضوع نیز به نقطه قوت آن تبدیل شده
است

در حال حاضر به عنوان یک مشاور و محقق در رشته بیزنس در یک شرکت مرتبط با تکنولوژی در حال همکاری هستم
و آمادگی خودم را برای انتقال تجربیات و توانایی هایم در پیشبرد اهداف کنگره، بار دیگر اعلام می کنم؛ تا کنگره ای
کنشگر، فراگیر و کارآمد را برای دو سال آینده با کمک نیروهای جدید و همه داوطلبان و اعضای کنگره بسازیم. درنهایت
از هر نوع برنامه ای توسط کنگره برای انتخابات امسال در جهت اطلاع رسانی از برنامه های خودم و سایر نامزدها با
کمال میل استقبال می کنم.

My first experience working with non-profit organizations started in university years at Senate Governing Council, Student Union, and Student Affairs Council. Since then I have been involved in civic/educational/artistic/cultural activities, and:

• Organized movie/play sessions, promoted artistic/critical thinking.
• Planned/held cultural, artistic, recreational events.
• Co-founded NGOs supporting women/youth against domestic violence.
• Planned/administered educational information sessions.

Arriving in Canada (student admission), a new chapter of community engagement started for me and while learning about areas where I am productive, my objectives/interests stayed intact. In Vancouver I worked with SFU Senate Governing Council, SFU Iranian Club, Iranian Engineers of BC Association, and Engineers without Borders; continued helping newcomers in job development, and post-landing issues; collaborated with individuals/organizations in providing:

• Family/Educational counseling
• Legal resources for domestic violence victims
• Volunteer recruitment

Diverse involvements provided me with valuable skills, insight, and experience in policy development, volunteer coordination, resource management, conflict resolution, and result-oriented crisis management. In Toronto I joined Iranian Association at University of Toronto, served for three terms as director; proudly participated in Iranian Canadian Congress (ICC) activities, helped review/revision of bylaws/constitution, ICC debate, Ms. Rashidi’s case. I established TodaySyria together with Iranian Canadian activists during when situation in Syria deteriorated. We joined national efforts of likeminded Canadians and found TodaySyria.Org to centralize information on services/resources by organizations/individuals; which has been praised by members of government and professionals in settlement.

I have always believed in power of grassroots movements. Working with Policy Development, Communication committees of ICC, I concluded that ICC has capacity to effectively lever advocacy/support for the community. My participation in committees provided me with first-hand knowledge of organization and opportunity of collaboration with esteemed activists/volunteers of our community. I announce my desire for candidacy in upcoming elections in hopes to utilize my skills and experience towards helping our community.

As the federal candidate for the New Democratic Party (NDP) in the last federal election and the president of the NDP in Willowdale, I can help the Iranian Canadian Congress (ICC) become an effective political lobbying organization for the Iranian-Canadian community. I will bring the political experience and connections I gained as part of my involvement in politics to the role of ICC director, working with my colleagues to assure that the organization will become an effective guardian of the interests of Iranian-Canadian community. Additionally, my studies in the field of Immigration and Settlement (in which I am currently pursuing an MA at Ryerson University) have made me sensitive and knowledgeable of the specific challenges that the Iranian-Canadian community faces as an immigrant population. Furthermore, my research in the field of Iranian-Canadian immigrant entrepreneurship will allow me to help the ICC formulate policies and undertake actions which aid this important section of our community. For these reasons, I put forth my nomination for the position of director of the Iranian-Canadian Congress.

I would like to nominate myself for the ICC Board. Please find below a paragraph about myself:

My name is Dorna Mojdami, I hold a HBSc. from York University, a DDS from the University of Western Ontario and will be starting my Dental Speciality training in Dental Public Health (MSc.) commencing Fall 2016 at the University of Toronto. I am currently working as a general  dentist in Toronto with a special interest serving and providing dental health care to high risk populations such as new immigrants and those requiring social assistance. I am also the founder and president of the Iranian Ontario Dental Association which is dedicated to uniting Iranian dental health professionals all across Ontario. I take pride in being a first generation Iranian-Canadian and I am dedicated to helping, supporting and promoting the Iranian-Canadian community and being apart of the ICC board will provide me the platform to do so. Moreover, I believe that my background in healthcare and my interest in furthering my education in the realm of public health and policy could be of great asset to the ICC.
