Iran-Canada meet at the UN

Minister Dion and Foreign Minister Zarif met on Sept 20th, 2016 at the United Nations General Assembly. Here is a statement from the Iranian Canadian Congress:

Positive signs for the future of Canada-Iran relations

The Iranian Canadian Congress (ICC) welcomes the news that Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs Stéphane Dion and Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammad-Javad Zarif met in New York today (September 20, 2016) at the United Nations. The Iranian Canadian Congress continues to encourage direct dialogue between the two countries in hopes of permanently re-establishing diplomatic relations and the exchange of embassies. We also reiterate our belief that such direct high-level discussions offer the best opportunity to advocate for the release of Iranian-Canadians Professor Homa Hoodfar and Saeed Malekpour. Over the past two weeks, Canadians from across the country have shown that they support diplomacy and dialogue, with the ICC’s official parliamentary petition asking the Canadian government for renewed relations with Iran gathering more than 7500 signatures so far. We once again ask all Canadians who support peace and diplomacy to sign this petition (petition e-553) and to share it with your friends and family!
