ICC has launched an advocacy campaign against the new proposed sanctions bill in the Senate of Canada. Donate to the ICC and help us to advance the interests of the Iranian Canadian community.
Dear Friends,
As we all know, sanctions against Iran and the lack of an embassy harm the Iranian-Canadian community.
- ICC has launched an advocacy campaign against the new proposed sanctions bill in the Senate of Canada.
- Donate to the ICC and help us to advance the interests of the Iranian Canadian community.
Over the past few months, we have organized an effective advocacy campaign against the new proposed sanctions bill on Iran. The ICC believes that the proposed bill will block the path of re-engagement between Canada and Iran and also further complicates the problems ordinary Iranian-Canadians encounter due to sanctions on Iran, including not having an embassy in Ottawa. We were able to mobilize thousands of Iranian Canadians from across Canada to take action and contact their Senators to ask them to reject Bill S-219. Through the grassroots support and the hard work of our policy associates and advisers we have been able to persuade several ranking members of the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee to publicly stand against the proposed bill. The bill has been referred to the Senate Chamber for further discussion and for a final vote. We have a golden opportunity to block this bill in the Senate and we have a step-by-step plan to do this.
To defeat this bill we need to take our campaign to next level and connect with all 101 Senators in Ottawa to ensure that they have enough information about Bill S-219 (the Non-Nuclear Sanctions Against Iran Act) and persuade them to vote against the bill at the final stage. We need financial resources to:
- Expand our grassroots campaign and mobilize a greater number of Iranian Canadians against Bill S-219.
- Connect with stakeholders in Ottawa.
- Provide Senators with expert opinions against the proposed sanctions bill.
The Iranian Canadian Congress relies on the energy and passion of its volunteers. With the help of these volunteers we have been able to keep our operation expenses at minimum. However, for us to run professional and effective advocacy campaigns we need access to greater financial resources.
