Dear Prime Minister,

The Iranian Canadian Congress (ICC), the largest non-governmental non-religious and non-partisan democratic organization representing Iranian Canadians, expresses its concerns regarding the additional sanctions imposed by the Canadian government on Iranian officials, announced on August 14, 2026. According to the announcement, these officials were sanctioned “for their activities that have threatened a critical international waterway, and obstructed navigation rights in and around the Strait of Hormuz, contrary to international law.”

The announcement omits the following critical facts, obscures and inverts the truth, and by doing so does a disservice to the Canadian public and jeopardizes Canada’s national interests:

Dear Prime Minister,

The Iranian Canadian Congress (ICC), the largest non-governmental non-religious and non-partisan democratic organization representing Iranian Canadians, calls on the Canadian government to restore consular and diplomatic relations with Iran.

The ICC welcomes your sensible statement in this regard that "Engagement is not endorsement; Having an embassy having consular services in a country does not mean we endorse the policies of that country." Indeed, diplomatic engagement based on mutual respect is the only path towards peaceful coexistence and cooperation.

The Iranian Canadian Congress Art Committee is thrilled to invite artists to participate in our virtual exhibition, a digital art showcase running in March 2027 on our platform. 

The theme for this year’s exhibition is “People’s Chains of Resistance and Resilience.”

We seek to explore the different dimensions of this unjust aggression: the pain inflicted on the people, the destruction of civilian and cultural institutions, people’s resistance, the sacrifices made, and how deterrence has changed the balance of power in the region. The Iranian Canadian Congress would be honored to feature your work in this digital gallery. 

Submission Guidelines:

We are accepting a variety of media, including painting, digital art, photography, sculpture, videos up to one minute in length, essays up to one page, and poetry.

The election committee announced the following new Board of directors have been elected for a period of two years: 

The upcoming Iranian Canadian Congress (ICC) annual general meeting (AGM 2026) will be held online on August 2, 2026, at 1:00 pm ET. A video call link to attend the meeting will be shared with the members through email in future communication. The agenda of the meeting is as follows:  

• Call to order  
• President’s report  
• Treasurer’s report and review of the 2025 financial statement
• Members' survey report
• Announcement of the election results  
• Q&A 
• Adjournment  

Please note that an election is also held for the two available seats on the board of directors of the ICC for the next two years. The membership deadline to participate in the election was until end of 24th of July 2026. The election will be held by online voting which has started on Sunday July 26th, 2026 and will end on August 2nd, 2026, at 1:45 pm. The election will be conducted through a platform called Electionbuddy and you have received an email from Electionbuddy with instructions for voting.   

The ICC board of directors is committed to transparency in finance. The 2025 financial statement is available here and will also be presented at the AGM.

The Iranian Canadian Congress (ICC) continues to unequivocally condemn the unprovoked war imposed on Iran by the United States and Israel and expresses its profound concern over the ongoing escalation of violence. We stand in solidarity with all civilians affected by this conflict and recognize the immense human suffering that accompanies war.

The continued hostilities have deeply affected families both within Iran and across the diaspora, including many members of the Iranian Canadian community. Beyond the devastating humanitarian consequences, the conflict has also had significant social, economic, and psychological impacts on Canadians with family members, friends, and loved ones in the region.

The ICC supports Canada’s calls for de-escalation and the peaceful resolution of conflict. We further condemn violations of international humanitarian law and international criminal law committed by both state and non-state actors. Accountability must apply equally to all parties responsible for unlawful conduct during armed conflict (United Nations, 1945; International Criminal Court, 1998).
