Response from the Canadian Red Cross

Here is the official response we received from the Canadian Red Cross to the request the ICC sent them for opening an appeal to help the flood victims in Iran.

Based on international calls for assistance, the Canadian Red Cross has launched an appeal to assist the flood victims in Iran. Please use the following page on the Red Cross website to donate to them directly: www.redcross.ca/Iran/ICC

Here is the official response the ICC received to its initial letter:

Dear Soudeh Ghasemi

On behalf of the Canadian Red Cross we thank you for your time in contacting us regarding the response to the flash floods in Iran. At this time the Canadian Red Cross has opened a funding appeal in response to the floods to assist the individuals affected across Iran.

Currently the Iranian Red Crescent has been on the forefront of relief efforts, with approximately 17,000 responders assisting over 332,000 individuals and providing temporary shelter to a further 160,000 people.

When an emergency is too severe for local support systems to adequately respond, the global Red Cross response can be quickly activated. There are local volunteers being mobilized across the areas affected by the floods to support the needs of vulnerable communities.  The Red Cross and Red Crescent movement is working to coordinate international emergency relief efforts and get help to people in affected areas as quickly as possible.

Canadians wishing to support those affected can make a financial donation to the Iran Floods appeal by visiting our website at www.redcross.ca, by calling 1-800-418-1111, or by contacting their local Canadian Red Cross office. Funds raised through this appeal will enabled the Red Cross and Red Crescent to provide shelter, basic needs and livelihood support in response to this disaster.

In the event that any members of your organization are searching for channels through which to contact family members in Iran we have provided the contact information for the international committee of the Red Cross  restoring family links here below:

What do I do if I’m looking for family members in the affected area?

If the person you are trying to contact is a Canadian citizen, please contact Foreign Affairs Canada by calling 1-800-605-5499.

People who are looking for family members (who are not Canadian citizens) who have been displaced because of the flooding are encouraged to visit the ICRC Family Links website at

http://www.familylinks.icrc.org/.

We sincerely thank you and your organization the Iranian Canadian Congress for their support to the Canadian Red Cross. Should you have further questions regarding this funding appeal please do not hesitate to reach out directly
