Here is a statement from the Iranian Canadian Congress (ICC) regarding Mahmoud Reza Khavari:

A new report by the IC Journal has revealed the extent of Khavari's family investments in Canada. Mahmoud Reza Khavari was a former Iranian banker who fled to Canada after a massive $2.6 billion financial fraud came to light in 2011. He was tried in absentia in Iran. In December 2017, Khavari was sentenced to 30 years in prison. Interpol issued a warrant for Mahmoud Reza Khavari as well. 

The ICC has discussed the concerns of Iranian-Canadians regarding Mahmoud Reza Khavari with Canadian officials and members of parliament on multiple occasions. We once again call on the Canadian government and the Minister of Justice to extradite Mahmoud Reza Khavari to Iran for him to serve his sentence and if his extradition to Iran is not possible, we call on the Minister of Justice to open an investigation on Mr. Khavari using the full extent of the Canadian law including provisions of the of the Corruption of Foreign Public Officials Act and Freezing Assets of Corrupt Foreign Officials Act.
