Iranian Canadian Congress is calling on all Iranians in Canada to please sign the petition that follows. This petition is in support of Nowruz Commemorative Stamp Committee’s proposal to Canada Post’s Stamp Advisory Committee on January 30, 2015; the petition is implemented following the Stamp Advisory Committee’s decision to exclude Nowruz Stamp from their 2017 stamp publications.

Nowruz, "[The] New Day" in Persian, marks the astronomical beginning of spring with over 3000 years of colourful traditions. It is a time of great joy and family festivities celebrated by over 300 million people around the world. One of UNESCO's intangible stances of cultural heritage of humanity, Nowruz is a non-religious non-political holiday that is shared by people of diverse cultural backgrounds.
Almost 500,000 Canadians celebrate Nowruz every year on March 21, a tradition we inherited from our ancestors. Nowruz is a chance of revival, reconciliation, neighbourliness, and contribution to diversity, friendship, and unity among people and communities - all of which are among fundamental values of Canadian society.
Considering 2009 Bill C-342, Nowruz Day Act wherein the Parliament of Canada respected Nowruz as a cultural heritage, and since it exemplifies Canada’s great respect in multiculturalism and social diversity, we at the Iranian Canadian Congress (ICC) support including in 2017 Canada Post stamp publications, a commemorative stamp dedicated to Nowruz (Nowruz Stamp), and to reconsider marking this cultural heritage of many Canadians.
Furthermore, as ICC is a strong advocate of this wonderful initiative, we have pledged to purchase 1000 pieces of these Nowruz Stamps and in doing so we encourage all other Iranian Canadians, as individuals or entities, to follow suit.
Sincerely,
Board of Directors
Iranian Canadian Congress
